Fresh faces among Island Games badminton squad

GUERNSEY will look to make it three NatWest Island Games team badminton gold medals in a row this summer, but without star names Elena Johnson and Paul Le Tocq.

Both players have made themselves unavailable for the Games across in Jersey, meaning that four of the 10 players named in their team are debutants.

Also notably absent from the team after deciding this was a Games too far is Sarah Garbutt, who has won a staggering 29 medals in a Games career that began back in 1987.

All three of Garbutt, Johnson and Le Tocq played in the 2013 gold medal-winning team, while both Garbutt and Le Tocq were instrumental in the dramatic 2011 win.

Garbutt's brother Kevin Le Moigne provides the experience in a team that has plenty of youth within it, including the teenage trio of Chloe Le Tissier and the Trebert siblings, Jordan and Emily.

The Sarnians have been the side to beat at the last two Games, winning gold in the team event dramatically at both Isle of Wight 2011 and Bermuda 2013.
