Bougourd adds 'something extra'

SCOTT BOUGOURD is unique among midfielders in the island, according to Guernsey coach Steve Sharman.

The North midfielder has been named in Sharman's 20-man squad for this summer's Island Games and is the only player in the group who has not played for Guernsey FC this season.

But that fact does not concern Sharman, who says that it should not be viewed as GFC v. Priaulx, but rather as the players best-equipped to win a gold medal, wherever they play. 'Since I came in a couple of years ago, Scott is the midfielder that offers something completely different to anybody else in Guernsey football,' he said.

'He has that ability to get beyond strikers and into the box, as well as being able to nullify opposition playmakers effectively and we have nobody else like that.

'Scott is somebody I wanted to have involved in the group if he was fit and he adds something extra to our squad.'

Bougourd was part of the 2011 squad at the Games in the Isle of Wight and indeed, 15 of the 20 from that group are in the squad for this summer's tournament in Jersey.
