Tardif saves inept Lions from thrashing

THEY had already given Guernsey FC all sorts of problems earlier this season and at Footes Lane, an unlikely double was completed for Hythe Town when they defeated GFC 1-0.

Languishing below mid-table in Ryman South they may be, but they have made the most of a couple of inept Green Lions showings to effectively win seven to nothing across the two games.

Here, Mike Yianni's cracking long-range first-half free-kick was enough for a victory that the hosts can have little argument with, because they were poor for long periods.

They will point to the chances they squandered and yes, had they taken them in a lively spell after half-time, they may have taken something positive from the game.

But at the same time, they were reliant on the sheer brilliance of Chris Tardif at the other end with a series of fine stops – one of them truly stunning – while also having the woodwork rattled twice.

GFC had plenty of the ball but didn't look like doing anything with it enough and the new experimental 3-1-3-1-2 formation just didn't work.
