Vance's battling Lions hold out against Ramsgate

THEY have endured a torrid time on their Ryman South midweek travels, but Guernsey battled out a hard-earned point to keep Ramsgate firmly in the relegation battle with a 0-0 draw.

Seven of their previous 10 evening trips to the UK this campaign had ended in defeats – many of them heavy – and a depleted squad on this occasion suggested it could be another tough night.

But Tony Vance's men showed fight and plenty of defensive resilience to come home undefeated, despite being heavily under the cosh for most of the second half as Ramsgate pinned them back.

They could even have nicked a winner late on, too, as Paris Pereira was denied by a blatant foul in the last minute, but that would have been grossly unfair on the hosts, who dominated after half-time.

Admittedly, that was against a Green Lions side who had made a triple substitution at the break, with Ross Allen, Tom de la Mare and the impressive Simon Geall all brought off as Vance used all 14 players who travelled.

The result means that GFC remain 10th and five points behind Herne Bay, meaning only a win at Herne Bay on Saturday will keep alive the possibility of finishing in ninth place.
