Guernsey edge a thriller to claim rare away victory

GUERNSEY retained their inter-insular crown in nail-biting fashion with a rare away win at the Mechanics Club on Saturday.

Ultimately, it was the visitors who won the vast majority of the key moments to edge a thrilling contest 13-12 after a gruelling day of action.

Although it did not go the full distance – Aaron Canavan won the final dead rubber frame with Guernsey already victors at 13-11 – this was still a major tick in the box for the new longer format.

The quality across the 10 players was impressive, particularly from Canavan, but despite the increase in length, none of the intensity was lost.

'Coming to Jersey and winning has proven to be incredibly difficult over the years, so I'm ecstatic that we've beaten a good Jersey team,' said Guernsey captain Adam Shorto.
