Strongest tennis squad yet

GUERNSEY will be boosted by the inclusion of debutant Ella Taylor in a powerful 10-player Island Games tennis squad who will compete in Jersey next month.

Taylor, who is 20, is UK-born and plays her tennis primarily on the college circuit across the Atlantic in America, but qualifies for selection by virtue of her parents having lived in the island since early last year.

Her presence will help the women's team to potentially challenge for medals, while that will be the minimum expectation from a formidable men's quintet.

Teenage prospect Jack Oldfield is the sole debutant in a team including Rob West, Pat Ogier, Dom McLuskey and Nico Robinson.

Taylor is joined in the women's team by Jo Dyer, Chantelle Frith, Georgina Denton and Lauren Barker, with the week's action beginning with the team events.

Each tie in both of the respective team events are best-of-three rubbers, with the two No. 1 players of each island facing off in singles, followed by the No. 2s and then, if necessary, a deciding doubles rubber.
