Visitors require patience to see off brave resistance

THEY battled bravely and threatened a major scalp, but Elizabeth College fell just short against the MCC in their annual declaration match yesterday.

In perfect weather at the College Field, the young hosts batted impressively against a strong bowling attack chasing 214, but eventually fell 30 runs shy.

Barney Thompson and Anthony Stokes both batted excellently for half-centuries, while Louis Falla played some excellent shots down the order to spur them on, but it was not to be.

Ultimately it was the quality of MCC opening bowling pair Anthony Giles and Anthony Skeggs that proved the difference for the experienced visitors.

Giles in particular was magnificent in posting figures of three for nine from his nine overs, while Skeggs picked up four in a lengthy 13-over performance.
