Travers going for gold in Liverpool

WITH a European Championship silver medal in his possession, triathlete James Travers is now looking to go one better this weekend and be crowned British Age Group champion.

Having turned 30 at the start of the year, the Guernseyman has now stepped up into the 30-35 age group, but managed to maintain his success from 2014.

In a hectic summer of action, there is still an assault on the World Championships to come in September, but only after he has had a go at becoming the best in Britain.

Liverpool is the venue on Sunday for that attempt and, having finished second in his age group on the same course a year ago, Travers is understandably hopeful. 'Last year the conditions were horrendous with high winds and heavy rain, and the forecast is it for to be an exact replica this time around,' he said.

'The swim is quite sheltered because it is in a lock, but the bike section is tough. But I think that it can be an advantage for me because I like to think I have good bike-handling.

'I won silver last year and I am going there looking to improve on that, so winning it is definitely in my mind.'
