Bronze for Travers in British Age Group Championships

JAMES TRAVERS admits that disappointment is his overriding feeling despite picking up a bronze medal at the British Championships in Liverpool at the weekend.

Going into the event, 30-year-old Travers had high hopes of winning his 30-35 age group category, but had to settle for third after finishing fifth of the overall field.

Ultimately, two brief stoppages on the bike section due to mechanical problems were costly, after he had worked his way through the pack in that middle segment.

He still looked on course for a silver medal but was pipped on the run by James Hockin, which meant it was a frustrating post-race debrief for Travers.

'Both of the guys that finished above me are guys I have beaten a couple of times each in other events already this season, so I know I can beat them,' he said.

'So because of that I would say I am disappointed at the result, but there is a very high standard at the top end of this age group and on this occasion, it just wasn't my day.

'It just happens that this was the one occasion I didn't properly check my bike beforehand and there were a couple of problems with the handlebars, which cost me time with those stoppages.

'Those probably cost me about a minute and that was about the time I was slower than what I would have hoped for. But saying that, it just didn't click for me on the day throughout.'
