Horton up against Britain's best in Barnsley

TOBYN HORTON will be among the elite of British cycling who will be vying for a national title tonight.

However, the Guernsey rider's hopes of challenging for glory on the streets of Barnsley in the National Circuit Race Championship have been hampered by an infected finger, which he picked up just after he returned to action following the virus that kept him out of the NatWest Island Games in Jersey.

He finishes his course of antibiotics today, but admitted that he is 'not back to 100% fitness' yet because of the latest setback.

'I am gutted I am not in top form because I would have been aiming to go there and win,' said Horton, who rides for the Madison Genesis team.

'I dare say it will be hotly-contested because for any British rider this is a pretty big event and I would love to win it.

'You never say never – it is fast and furious racing, so a win is not out of the question because you never know what's going to happen.'
