GUERNSEY is preparing a bid to host the NatWest Island Games in 2021.

A bid document will soon be submitted to the International Island Games Association and, if that is accepted, then the biennial multi-sports event will be held here for the third time six summers from now.

That green light from the IIGA is regarded as little more than a formality as they approached Guernsey about hosting the 2021 version after the original hosts, Faroe Islands, pulled out earlier this year.

'In terms of how sure we are, we are 99% certain that this will happen and the only thing preventing our hosting is mistakes at our end or an inability to attract funding over the coming months and years,' said Guernsey Island Games Association games director Jon Marley.
