Sprint stars Douglas and Arthur leave their mark

THREE island all-comers' records fell on the best day of domestic track and field for many a year at Footes Lane on Saturday.

Olympian Mark Lewis-Francis failed to appear at the Intertrust 10th Anniversary Games and the new European Junior champion Ojie Edoburun was also a non-starter.

It hardly mattered, though, thanks to the efforts of Montell Douglas, Reuben Arthur and Charlotte Arter, who all returned home with their names added to the island record books.

Douglas, for so long the fastest woman in British sprinting, displaced Rebecca White's decade-plus tenure at the top of women's 100m list. Arthur is now officially the fastest man over 100 after his electronic time of 10.40 topped the 10.4 hand-timed previous best by former GB star Craig Pickering.
