GUERNSEY FC made it two wins from two in Ryman Isthmian South last night, but had goalkeeper Chris Tardif to thank for doing so.

The Green Lions triumphed 2-1 against Carshalton Athletic in front of an 887-strong crowd for the opening home game of the league season, winning via goals from Matt Loaring and Ross Allen.

But they were lucky to win, perhaps even fortunate to get a point, having been saved time and again by man-of-the-match Tardif.

Carshalton also missed a penalty.

'I can't stand another 42 games like that,' groaned assistant coach Steve Sharman afterwards, clearly unhappy that his team had not worked hard enough.

'We were poor in the first half, got better at the start of the second and then poor again.

'We got out of jail,' he rightly added.
