THEY were made to work far harder than many may have anticipated, but St Martin's avoided a potential Jeremie Cup banana skin by progressing to the quarter-finals last night.

Manzur are expected to be right up there challenging for the title in an expanded Railway League this season, but ultimately paid the price for not being clinical enough at Northfield.

Had they had their shooting boots on in the opener of the first round encounters, they could well have caused an upset against a Saints side missing several regulars, including several of defensive persuasion.

Ultimately, though, Jordan Gallienne will be happy enough that his side got the job done and he will be delighted with the efforts of young striker Joe Collenette, who grabbed a vital brace.

Steve Renouf scored the other Saints goal while Shannon Goode scored for Manzur.
