Priaulx finally gets on elusive podium

A FIRST podium finish of the European Le Mans Series season for Andy Priaulx has kept alive the possibility of adding another title next month to his impressive collection.

Choosing to race at the Paul Ricard circuit in southern France, rather than the latest round of the British Touring Car Championship on the same day, Priaulx was hoping for a bit of better luck.

The previous three European races had seen him finish fourth each time, but he would break his podium duck with a result that takes his BMW Team MarcVDS Z4 GTE to second place overall in their class.

Priaulx was a happy man afterwards as the result keeps alive hopes of securing the title at the final round in Estoril, Portugal in mid-October, even though he has lost ground in the BTCC.

'The car has had the potential all season and the result was just reward for the team working so hard to get us back in the hunt for the championship,' he said.

'The safety car came out and basically cost us the chance of a win, but we pushed hard and, thanks to great stints from us all, we made the podium. The team have worked so hard for this and deserved it.'
