IT GOT Saturday afternoon football club drinkers wincing into their pints as they surveyed the damage via social media, but one of the island's top badminton players was not smiling at all at the sight of his x-rays.

Danny Penney, who last year was competing in Glasgow at the Commonwealth Games and is a recent island champion on the badminton courts at the Rohais, suffered a double leg break while playing football.

Penney was the Guernsey island singles champion in 2011, and badminton development officer Matt Haynes admits it is a big blow for the island side.
