Reynolds calls on Raiders to back up top performance

FINDING consistency and to improve is all that the Guernsey Raiders head coach is asking for, while dismissing any talk of promotion from National Three.

Raiders moved to within two points of fourth place with that magnificent last-gasp win over a quality Westcombe Park side on Saturday, but Jordan Reynolds is sticking to a plan he promised himself pre-season and that is to not make any pronunciations over promotion hopes until the Christmas break by which time they will have edged past halfway through the 26-match programme.

It's understood that the top four sides will remain at this level of the RFU pyramid when the leagues are more regionalised next season.

Raiders, clearly, can compete with the best, but tend to slack off against lower opposition, a trend they must buck Reynolds said yesterday after reviewing Saturday's footage.

'We know we can do it,' he said. 'We compete against the top sides, but against others we drop off a bit. We have just got to be more consistent.

'You can't put up a performance like that and not back it up.'

Reynolds says that the performance against Westcombe was the best in two seasons when they beat Dorking.

'It was one of our best performances for a long time.

'Both sides were fantastic.'
