THE Priaulx League representative team were cruelly denied in their FA Inter-League Cup clash as they were edged out by the Southern Amateur League.

Despite the visitors to the Track being the better side, Guernsey were denied an injury-time penalty that would have given them a chance to win the game and instead went on to lose 1-0 after extra-time.

Steve Sharman was magnanimous in defeat, but said he was proud of his players on a day where Jersey also fell at the same second-round stage.

'We lost to the better side and nobody can deny that,' he said.

'But we knew we were facing a side with players who could play higher if they wanted to, but choose not to, so I am incredibly proud of the performance our lads all showed today.

'We stayed in that game for long periods and they were all pushed harder than they will be all season in the Priaulx League, so I can't fault any of them.

'The penalty shout was one that I thought we should have had and it was disappointing, but these things happen in football and there is no point dwelling on it.'
