Green Lions pay the penalty

GUERNSEY FC boss Tony Vance admitted Joe Taylor's 90th minute penalty was a bitter pill to swallow as it condemned the Green Lions to a 2-1 defeat against Ramsgate at the Southwood Stadium on Saturday.

The Sarnians had survived a few close calls in the second half and looked like they would hold on to a precious point before Sam Cochrane's foul on Craig Thompson allowed Taylor to net a last-gasp winner from 12 yards.

Dom Heaume's clinical finish on the volley on 26min. had cancelled out Ian Pulman's 12th minute free kick.

'It was a long way to come for nothing,' Vance side.

'It wasn't a pretty game but both teams made it very competitive. It wasn't an ideal pitch but there were chances at both ends and both teams will argue they could have won it.

'But a rash challenge at the end was the decider, but there is no individual blame as mistakes were made leading up to the incident which didn't help. He tucks away the penalty and they go away with the three points.'
