And boy didn't St Jacques celebrate after a performance of immense character to get their Hampshire Merit Solent League challenge back on track at a KGV that had seen no competitive rugby for months but belatedly came alive again on Saturday afternoon.

This was a win borne out of courage and immense heart.

Jon Bell, their coach, summed it up succinctly: 'If you want to see a team performance, that was it'.

Certainly, the behind the scenes efforts to get the St Jacques show back on the road proved worth it, not only in terms of the points gained from victory against a side that had beaten them 40-13 at the start of the season, but from the obvious joy it brought the team and club officials who were ecstatic.

'Hopefully, we have been able to put all our troubles behind us,' said Bell.
