Rangers 2, Northerners 3

NORTH moved a step closer to retaining their FNB Priaulx League title last night as they edged past bottom side Rangers at St Andrew's.

The chocolate-and-blues dominated the first half, but only led 2-0 at the break through Kyle Smith's early strike and Simon Marley's free-kick.

Rangers – who are without a point to their name – gave themselves a sniff when Ali Venosa halved the deficit, only for a towering Simon Tostevin header to restore the visitors' two-goal advantage.

Venosa struck again to make life interesting late on, but North held on for a win that takes them back to the top of the table and now needing a maximum of 13 points from their final five games.
