Corbet slams 'Guernsey United' plans

FORMER island manager Phil Corbet has slammed the plans for a 'Guernsey United' side and claims that the lack of trust between clubs and the GFA is such that de-affiliation by Priaulx level clubs now is a possibility.

'It is insulting and highlights a lack of trust and respect for the clubs,' said Corbet, who was speaking as an individual football fan and not with his Vale Rec football-section club president's hat on.

Corbet says despite assurances that there would be no battle between 'United' and the clubs for the players' services, the new moves would not be welcome among the already struggling clubs.

'Some clubs are so concerned that they are considering their options, which may include not staying with the GFA.'

Corbet, who coached Guernsey in five Murattis, said that the senior clubs are using those three words – insulting, trust, respect – on a regular basis.

'There is a complete and utter lack of respect for the clubs and there is a complete lack of trust with the GFA and LMC, which for the LMC is a shame because they have worked hard at building bridges.

'It is difficult to say what impact this will have, but it will have an impact on how clubs operate.

'They already are being financially hamstrung by GFC and the sponsorship they suck up.
