GUERNSEY could have a pair of teenage Western Counties champions in their ranks in 10 days' time after both Billy Le Poullain and Chris Sumner progressed through to their respective finals.

However, the dream of a hat-trick of Amalgamated kings in the same season is over after James Woolnough fell at the first hurdle in the middleweight division.

The island's biggest three names were in action in Gloucester on Monday and Tuesday, with the week starting quietly for Le Poullain and Woolnough.

Withdrawal of a handful of original entries meant that both received byes into the area finals – effectively the region's semi-finals – which were held a night later.

Sumner was in action on night one, though, beating Said Salem by unanimous decision in the light-welterweight division to progress to a Western Counties final on 16 April.

He will be joined on finals night by former Alderney colleague and fellow youngster Le Poullain, who had his own impressive display 24 hours later.

He had already won the first two rounds against Micky Parsons by the time he gave his UK opponent a standing count in the third and unsurprisingly, Le Poullain won by unanimous decision.
