Controversial winner keeps Rovers in the hunt

ARGUABLY one of the most unexpected Priaulx League title triumphs remains possible after Rovers came from behind to end the hopes of Vale Rec on a fractious night at the Corbet Field.

While those wearing yellow-and-green must now rely on a minor miracle if they are to lift the Priaulx Cup, a first ever title for Rovers remains on course after Dale Webb struck a controversial winner.

There looked to be more than a hint of handball in Luke Winch's initial control-and-shot that was saved and fell nicely for Webb to poke home from close range and make it 2-1 on 70min.

But on the balance of play, Rovers did deserve to edge a contest that was not a classic but was tenacious throughout.

In what is now virtually a two-horse race, Jez Robin's side must defeat North in a blockbuster showdown in 10 days' time that would most likely force a title play-off between the sides next month.
