A NARROW defeat to the champions on the final day of the season did not stop Guernsey Raiders claiming a top-six finish in National Three London & South-East.

Although London Irish Wild Geese left Footes Lane with a 36-29 victory, Raiders picked up two bonus points for scoring four tries and finishing within seven points of the victors to finish ahead of nearest rivals Shelford, who suffered a surprise 20-9 home defeat to Wimbledon.

GRC director of rugby Jordan Reynolds was pleased with his side's never-say-die attitude after they had trailed 22-14 at the interval.

'The first half was disappointing but the best thing is we did not lose heart and we scored two tries in that half, which was important,' he said.

'We could have shut up shop at half-time, but we came out of the blocks well in the second half and we were by far the better side.'
