North have CI crown in their sights

NORTH will look to become the first Guernsey winners of the Upton Park Trophy in four years today as they face the might of St Paul's at the Corbet Field.

After last year's record 9-0 defeat against the same opposition in the same game, North are big underdogs, but are boosted by the suspension to St Paul's star Luke Watson.

North coach William Woodford is confident his side can produce what would be a major upset and lift their 18th Channel Islands crown.

'I have always said that I back ourselves against any team we play and that is the same case here, although St Paul's are big favourites,' he said.

'We have a game plan in our minds that we want to adopt and we are confident that if we do it well, then we have a good chance of winning.

'This year we go into the game in good form, whereas as last year we did not, so our preparation and build-up has been much better, while we are a better team than we were a year ago as well.'

North are without both River Marsh and Scott Bougourd, although Jack Domaille is expected to be fit to start after recovering from a shoulder injury.

Today's match kicks off at 1pm at the Corbet Field.
