Tostevin hangs up his boots after 300+ goals

SIMON TOSTEVIN has retired from football.

The North striker and arguably the Priaulx League's star name has decided that, at the age of 33, it is time to hang up his boots after a senior career spanning nearly two decades.

'It's due to a combination of factors, but the main one is because of injury,' said the former Guernsey player, who won seven Muratti caps, played in two Island Games campaigns and in the 2010 Uefa Regions Cup.

'I've had to manage my ankles and knee all season and it takes its toll after a while having to make sure you ice them after each training session and game to keep the swelling down ahead of the next match.

'I'm also starting an important qualification with work in September which will take up a lot of my free time, so it seemed to make sense.'

Tostevin had originally considered retiring a year ago, but missing out on playing in the Upton through injury – and the subsequent 9-0 defeat North suffered in his absence – made him determined to end on a higher note.

He has managed that as his goals propelled North to their second successive Priaulx League title and they also added the Guernsey FA Cup for good measure.

Although his goal was not enough to avoid a 3-1 defeat in the Upton to St Paul's, he was part of one CI championship-winning team when North won it in 2012. He bows out with well in excess of 300 first team goals to his name that helped North to win five titles in the last decade as well as a spell in the first-team at Rovers.
