Mixed weekend for the Priaulxs

GEARBOX problems wrecked Andy Priaulx's Le Mans chances, but it was not all doom and gloom for the Priaulx family yesterday.

Father's Day celebrations for Andy were rescued by son Seb who at Croft enjoyed his best weekend yet in the Ginetta Cars Junior Championship, collecting a rookie win and second overall in round 10, third overall in round 11 and finally 11th overall in round 12.

Meanwhile, Andy could be excused moments of envy as he watched his Ford Chip Ganassi team-mates in car No. 68 win a titanic battle with the #82 Ferrari, to win the Le Mans title 50 years on from Ford's momentous 1966 victory.

But for the Guernseyman and colleagues in the No. 67 Ford GT – fellow Brits Harry Tinknell and Marino Franchitti – it proved a challenging race and they had to settle for ninth in the GTE-Pro class after all sorts of problems.

'It was a tough race as we had a gearbox issue at the start of the race, so we were unlucky from the outset,' said Andy later.

'Considering what happened to us, just finishing was an achievement. The team did a great job and we have all learnt a lot for next year.
