North go down the Hampshire Cup route

NORTH have been accepted into next season's Hampshire Cup.

The Priaulx League champions submitted their application to play in the knockout competition several weeks ago and found out that they had been successful over the weekend.

'We just thought it would be something different for the players,' said North president Garry Cortez, before explaining why the club have decided to go down the Hampshire route rather than, perhaps, apply to play in a Jersey cup competition.

'It is basically just as expensive to get to Jersey as it is Southampton these days.

'We discussed it at the end of last season because we were looking for something else to play in and, no disrespect, but we felt that by entering a Jersey competition you could go down there three or four times and yet get nothing out of it.

'By going to Hampshire it just gives us a little bit better competition.

'It will be something different and it gives the boys a bit of a carrot.'
