Guernsey's fastest ever 100m race on cards

THE fastest race ever held on a Guernsey athletics track is being predicted this weekend as the annual Intertrust Games return to Footes Lane for the 11th time.

A year ago, the all-comers' record for the blue riband men's 100m fell to 10.40sec. from Reuben Arthur and, 12 months later, Tom Druce believes it will be bettered again.

Furthermore, Guernsey's athletics development officer and event organiser believes that across the seven lanes, it will likely be a race unmatched by any that have gone before.

'If you look at the personal best times of all seven elite runners in the 100m, they are all comfortably below 11 seconds and three of them are sub 10.30sec. athletes,' said Druce.

'So, assuming that weather conditions are good for sprinting, then I would say this will definitely be the quickest race ever to take place in Guernsey.

'While there are no what you would call massive names on the start line, there are guys still with extremely quick times and also pretty evenly-matched.

'I wouldn't say that there is a big favourite to win it because any one of the top three or four in terms of the times will be confident they can win.'

The two biggest names on the start line will be European under-23s 200m silver medallist Leon Reid and former 100m runner-up at the same event Deji Tobais.
