Vance buoyed by strength of squad for replay

ONLY three of the squad who battled for the weekend's draw on home soil are unavailable for Guernsey FC tonight as they look for FA Cup progression at the second attempt.

After initial fears that the Green Lions were going to struggle for numbers for the preliminary round replay at Thamesmead Town, only Matt Loaring and Liam Mahon are unable to travel.

Teenage striker Robbie Legg is also absent through injury, after being on the wrong end of a heavy challenge that curtailed his involvement in the original match.

It means that manager Tony Vance can look forward with some degree of confidence after watching his side battle back from an awful first-half display on Saturday to force a 2-2 draw.

'It is credit to the players, their employers and their families that we have been able to name such a strong squad, so hopefully we can go there and finish the job off now,' he said.

'Whether we do depends on what Guernsey FC shows up.

'If we play like we did in the first half on Saturday, then we may as well not bother showing up to the airport, but if it is the team that turned up in the second half, then we have a competitive chance.'

The carrot for them is big, as they know victory would give them another home tie in 12 days' time against lower league opposition, in the shape of CCL Premier Division outfit Chertsey Town.

Tonight's match kicks off at 7.45pm, with extra-time and penalty kicks if required.
