CI LEAGUE club cricket is set to return in 2017, the Guernsey Cricket Board have announced.

'Both boards want it to happen and for broadly the same reasons,' said GCB chief executive Mark Latter yesterday.

'There are no real hurdles in the way for the GCB or JCB and in terms of how many teams play, it will be the number that is right for the competition,' he added.

Latter also said that the CI competition will be very much club-based and not franchise teams as mooted at one stage.

Meanwhile, Guernsey will honour its three-year agreement with the Sussex League and use the 2017 competition for a development side, while the intention is to play many more island representative fixtures on island.
