In their first ever tie in the top-level national knockout competition, the island side took the lead four times against National Conference East outfit Sevenoaks and eventually emerged 4-3 winners in a real thriller.

Steve Waldrom scored twice, including the late winner, with the other goals coming from Sam Dawes and Morgan Harries.

'In terms of finding out about us as a hockey team and where we are at, this was the biggest test we have ever had,' said Guernsey player-coach Andy Whalley.

'It shows there are a lot of guys in our squad who could fit into any National League team.'

Guernsey beat London Edwardians on penalties during their successful EH Trophy campaign last season and they are now due to face them again on Sunday 30 October.
