Three late goals put the gloss on a 5-1 home victory for the Green Lions at Footes Lane on Saturday when fellow strugglers Herne Bay were the victims.

Aided by playing nearly an hour against 10 men after Sam Hasler's sending off, GFC still fell behind but showed superiority with five unanswered second-half goals - two for Ross Allen, one apiece for Dave Rihoy and Craig Young as well as an own goal.

So, for the first time since 3 April, GFC manager Tony Vance was able to reflect on a victory in the Garenne Stand tunnel post-match.

'To be honest, I was disappointed with the first-half display and ultimately, it was the sending off that really cost them,' he said.

'But typically we had to do it the hard way and gift them a goal from the penalty spot straight after that red card and went in behind at half-time.

'I always sensed that they were there for the taking and that is why that even at 2-1 up, I brought on offensive players to try and kill the game, which we did in the last couple of minutes.'

The victory lifts GFC up to 18th in the Ryman South table ahead of another home match with in-form Walton Casuals on Wednesday night.
