St Martin's aim to extend lead

GETTING his players to enjoy their football has been the key to St Martin's early season success, says coach John Peace, as the leaders look to extend their Priaulx League advantage tonight.

Although the likes of North and Rovers have played fewer games and dropped fewer points, Saints remain unbeaten and victory over Sylvans tonight would move them four points clear at the top.

Throw in a fine 2-0 victory over Rozel Rovers on Saturday to ensure they are the sole local side in the Jeremie Cup semi-finals and the black-and-whites are unbeaten in nine matches.

But as they prepare to put their league unbeaten tag on the line again at Blanche Pierre Lane tonight, just what does Peace put the superb form down to?

'The main thing I have always tried to help my teams achieve is to enjoy their football and if that happens, then results will follow,' he said.

'All I ever ask of my players is that they work hard and give me everything they have got, both in training and during matches.

'If they do that, then I am not going to start shouting or screaming at them if they make mistakes because that is part of football, all you can expect of anybody is 100% effort.'

Tonight's game kicks off at 7.30pm.
