Whyteleafe defeat leaves Vance fuming

A FURIOUS Tony Vance ripped into his players after another away day Ryman South hammering – this time at Whyteleafe.

Matt Loaring gave the Green Lions an early lead but that promise disappeared and the hosts ran out 5-1 winners to lengthen GFC's winless away run to 21 successive games.

Afterwards, manager Vance did not even attempt to hide his anger or fury about the performance.

'This is the most angry I have been in a long, long time,' Vance said.

'What makes me most angry is that at 0-0 and then 1-0 up, we have never been in that much control of a game of football away from home since our Combined Counties League days.

'But then we rolled over and let them win this game through our own mismanagement on the pitch, which is extremely concerning.

'We will never, ever have a better chance to win away from home than we did today but we got what we deserved with the scoreline.

'The only thing I hope is that this is a bad day at the office and it never happens again.'

The defeat – caused by goals from Sam Clayton, John Scarborough, Scott Day and an Andrew Mensah brace – sees GFC drop two places back to 19th in the table and just three points above the relegation zone, after Herne Bay won 3-2 at Godalming Town.
