St Jacques unable to fulfil away fixtures

PROHIBITIVE travel costs mean that St Jacques are relying on the goodwill of their league opponents to complete their season fully.

The KGV-based club, who play in the Hampshire Solent Merit League, have again been hit by high flight costs for their away games in the UK.

Return flight costs to and from Southampton for many of the Saturdays in question total in excess of £200 per player to travel.

To fulfil the entire 14-game season as planned, it could likely cost St Jacques in the region of £60,000.

After postponing their fixture at Eastleigh last weekend, St Jacques will unlikely to be fulfilling any more away fixtures for the remainder of the 2016-17 campaign.

Instead, they have contacted each of their remaining away opponents in the eight-team league to enquire about the possibility of playing 'double-headers' in Guernsey on the weekend that the home fixture is due to be played.

So far, Eastleigh have already agreed to that proposal and with the six remaining home fixtures still taking place as planned, St Jacques will definitely have at least seven more games this season.

The next of those is due in nine days' time, when Tottonians Seconds visit the KGV.

However, until the other clubs respond, they will not know if other away games will be played in Guernsey or scratched.
