Double blow for Saints as North finally hit top
NORTH took their biggest step yet to a third successive FNB Priaulx League title after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over St Martin's at Blanche Pierre Lane.
A battle between the final two unbeaten sides in the league – who were level on points at the top – promised a teatime cracker under the floodlights on Saturday.
And credit to both sides, they delivered it, as the hosts Saints more than played their part in a high-quality encounter that was hanging in the balance well into the final quarter.
Ultimately, though, fine finishes from Chris Le Cheminant and debutant Harry Tobin won it for the chocolate-and-blues, despite Steve Renouf's late header giving Saints a glimmer.
The hosts also lost Louis Hunter to a suspected broken foot after a clash with Ryan Lamb just before half-time saw both leave the field injured.
