Now 26, the professional Guernsey bantamweight has not fought since losing to Brett Fidoe in September 2015, which was his first setback in the opening 11 fights of his career.

But after a long absence he is up against Mexican boxer Joseafat Reyes in a six-round super-bantamweight contest at the Royal Armouries.

'The only aim for this first fight back is to get the win and get rid of the ring rustiness, so when I do that, I am planning to be back in the ring again in January,' Watson said.

'Challenging for and winning titles – whatever level it is – is what I should be doing in 2017.'
