Gauvain signs ahead of Walton trip but Heaume is ruled out
CHARLTON GAUVAIN could be included in a Guernsey FC squad for the first time tonight, but Tony Vance has urged fans not to get carried away.
The club released images and news of the 16-year-old midfielder signing for the Green Lions at the weekend, after he began training recently.
He may be part of as yet unconfirmed 15-man squad for tonight's trip to Walton Casuals, being played on Whyteleafe's 3G surface, with GFC looking for their first away win in 22 attempts.
'Charlton is somebody who has the attributes to be a very good footballer and an asset, but we will phase his introduction in a way that doesn't overdo him,' said Vance.
'I am not putting any time frame on that – it may be tonight, it may be next week, it may be a month down the line, it may be three months down the line – but we will manage him correctly.
The big squad news for GFC is that Dom Heaume has suffered an ankle injury and will miss the match, adding to an injury list also comprising Glyn Dyer, Sam Cochrane, Ryan-Zico Black, Craig Young and Robbie Legg.
Dave Rihoy is work-tied, so young strikers Kyle Smith and Paris Pereira will both likely start against a Walton Casuals side sat 10th in the table – seven places above GFC.
However, they did lose 4-1 to GFC in the reverse fixture at Footes Lane in September, in what was the Green Lions' best display of the season.
Tonight's match kicks off at 7.45pm.
GFC probable squad
Josh Addison, Jordan Kelly, Simon Geall, Alex Le Prevost, Jamie Dodd, Josh Steel, Tom Dodds, Vijay Wiltshire, Angus Mackay, Tom de la Mare, Charlton Gauvain, Liam Mahon, Matt Loaring, Paris Pereira, Kyle Smith.
