Guernsey Raiders 35, Amersham & Chiltern 15

RAIDERS got the confidence boost they needed as they returned to winning ways at Footes Lane on Saturday.

After four successive defeats, a match against National Three London & South-East's bottom side was probably just what the doctor ordered for Guernsey and a bonus-point victory built on another strong performance from the pack ensured the home side did not let the golden opportunity afforded them by the fixture list go to waste.

On another day, the margin of victory might have been much greater, but Amersham & Chiltern's delayed arrival and subsequent travel plans meant that the game was late to kick-off and restricted to 35 minutes each way.

Other disruptions during the match, including an early back injury to Matt Thomas which saw him stretchered from the field and eventually leave the ground in an ambulance, meant that it turned into a patchy performance, but Raiders were never in danger of losing once they had established a 21-3 lead inside the opening 15 minutes.

By the end, they had scored five tries through Dale Martin (two), Dan Hill, Malcolm Barnes and Jason Batiste with Kenny Hellier converting all five.

'A mixed bag,' was Raiders coach Jordan Reynolds' assessment of the performance.
