Dane Ove spurs champ Le Tocq
A YEAR ago Paul Le Tocq was ready to call it a day and perhaps settle for just the 10 men's singles titles in 11 years.
But after last night landing an 11th crown, the soon-to-be 35-year-old with a chronically troublesome right knee, is suggesting he might just hang around a while longer.
Stuart Hardy pushed him hard in the opening set at a typically chilly Rohais Hall, but having claimed the opener 21-17 he took the second far easier – 21-12 – to secure another triumph.
He says the reappearance of good friend and doubles partner, Ove Svejstrup, who he later partnered to a doubles triumph, has given him new impetus.
'Ove moved back here from Denmark and forced me to play some badminton. At the moment I still enjoy it and while last year I thought about finishing, I now think it perhaps best for Guernsey badminton if I force someone to beat me.'
