Bristol 'newbies' set to face home fans

GREEN LIONS fans itching to see, in the flesh, the club's new imported talent – including a former Victory Shield England U16 international – will not have long to wait.

As Tony Vance prepared his squad for tonight's 'must-not-lose' game away at Three Bridges, the Guernsey FC boss said that, rest assured, the two Bristol City loanees, who starred in last week's draw at Lewes, will not only play this evening but also at Footes Lane on Saturday.

'It's moving things on a notch and it needed to happen,' said Vance who has recognised that the club was going nowhere but – just possibly – back down to the Combined Counties League, if it had sat back and waited for a couple of new home-grown heroes to propel them up the Ryman South table, and always be available for those troublesome midweek away days.

But they will have to win without skipper Jamie Dodd who is unavailable for personal reasons.

Dodd moved back to left-back last week as former England international Kodi Lyons-Foster came straight into the side at centre-back alongside Alex Le Prevost, but with Dodd not able to travel today Vance said he faced the problem of playing someone out of position at left-back or altering the formation.

'I will wait to see the condition of the pitch before deciding,' the coach said yesterday.

'It's unfortunate "Doddie" can't travel and he will be a big miss.

'It's a game we cannot afford to lose.'

The last time GFC visited Three Bridges was for the first game of last season when Sam Cochrane's last-minute header scooped up the points for the visitors.

Cochrane is still some weeks short of fitness, as is Craig Young, while closer to a return is Ryan-Zico Black, who is back in light training.

'Three Bridges need a victory more than us, but we can't afford to lose,' said the Green Lions boss.
