There were plenty of positives to take for St Jacques, who fielded a largely youthful squad and were well in contention going into the final quarter as they trailed by only a converted try, but the visitors turned the screw with two of their five tries coming in the last 20 minutes to kill off any hopes the hosts had of causing an upset.

St Jacques had trailed 19-5 at half-time, with their try having come from Callum Gladstone, but their dominance in the scrum led to a penalty try early in the second half to narrow the deficit to seven points but Havant withstood further pressure before closing out the game in the final quarter.

The result was 36-15 to the visitors.
