A QUARTET of talented teenagers highlighted that the future of Guernsey cycling is bright as the 2017 domestic road season got under way.

Although the experienced Mike Serafin won the 36-mile Talbot Loop race after riding away from the rest early on, it was the youngsters who made up the rest of the top places.

In his first ever senior road race, just weeks after turning 16, the highly-promising Sam Culverwell finished second, ahead of Jack Hoskins, Alex Van Katwyk and Brad Vaudin – the latter also making his senior debut.

Together, they left the likes of the more experienced Matt Osborn and Richard Moore in the shade and, in the case of Hoskins and Van Katwyk, did their Island Games hopes no harm at all.
