GUERNSEY FC produced what their manager called a ‘monumental effort’ to edge another point closer to Ryman South safety yesterday afternoon.
In doing so, they also threw a spanner in the works for promotion-chasing Carshalton Athletic, for whom a point dents their hopes of finishing in the play-off spots.
If results this midweek go their way, then the Green Lions could officially confirm their survival five days from now at Footes Lane when they entertain Horsham.
If they produce a performance similar to this one, then Tony Vance will have every confidence it will be achieved.
‘We deserved a point out of that game, without a doubt. We had a game plan today and it was clear that we carried it out superbly well,’ he said.
‘Because we let them have most of the ball and were willing to concede possession, we knew there would be periods where we were under the cosh and would have to defend well.
‘But we did that exceptionally well and in the last 20 minutes or so, it was a monumental effort by all of the lads and we still looked dangerous on the break.
‘Over the last few weeks the players have responded to the challenges I have been setting them and they did that again today.’
