Canavan edges out century-maker Desperques in a CI Final classic

AARON CANAVAN moved to the summit of the all-time Channel Islands snooker game on Friday night by edging an absolute classic at the Ex-Servicemen's Club.

That there had to be a loser in this latest CI individual showdown between Guernsey king Martyn Desperques and Jersey's finest Canavan was a shame, but ultimately, it was the visitor who won it 5-4.

Quite simply, of the eight CI crowns that Canavan has now won – with a 100 per cent record – to move level with the great Norman Wale, the English-born star has never been pushed so hard.

The fact that Desperques struck a magnificent 110 break in a sixth frame that squared up the match proved just how well he played and despite winning four CI crowns himself, you could argue this was his best ever performance.
