BILLY LE POULLAIN has been tipped by his coach to challenge for the Commonwealth Games welterweight gold medal in Australia next year.

The 21-year-old all but confirmed his spot in Guernsey's team for the Gold Coast Games next April after reaching the semi-finals of the National ABA Championships.

'I really think Billy can go all the way in the Commonwealths because although he lost to Harris Akbar on Saturday, there was not much in it at all,' he said.

'England are always the nation to beat in Commonwealth boxing and they will more than likely send Akbar next year so he will probably start as the favourite to win the gold medal.'
