Malcolm Barnes rounded off a fine team move also involving Romain Mercadal, who made the initial catch deep in his own half, Luke Sayer, who slalomed forward, Owen Thomas and Ned Brown to score in the 51-12 win at Amersham & Chiltern – and that effort was chosen by England Ladies star Kay Wilson as the best from around the country.

'It starts off with a great individual run,' said Wilson, who herself scored seven tries in one game during her country's recent Six Nations campaign. 'But it's the flood through from his teammates which really makes the try so special.

'It's a great team try.'

Try-scorer Barnes said: 'Credit has to go to the players who did all the hard work, I just finished it off.

'Our full back Luke Sayer started it all when he made the break through their line and our fly-half Owen Thomas kept it going with the offload, all I had to do was run it in.'

Yet Jordan Reynolds, the man who decided to submit an entry, said it was not even the best they have scored this season.

'I think the one we scored at Southend was better. This one was a close second.

'I thought it was worth putting it in the hat, but I didn't think at all we'd win it. When I was told we had I was stoked.

'It's also good promotion for the club.'

The Try of the Month competition is open to all levels of rugby below the Greene King IPA Championship.
