Trial by mud for Perrio as Rowes show their promise

THE Rowes, Katie and Alex, underlined their promise in the junior events, but it was a case of trial by mud for Louise Perrio, who finished 33rd out of a field of over 150 of the country’s best female endurance athletes at the McCain Euro Trial Cross Country event at Sefton Park, Liverpool.

The event is used by UK Athletics to select teams for December’s European Cross Country Championship and drew a field strong in quantity and quality.

‘While the course initially seemed firm, it soon churned up,’ said Perrio.

‘I was in a good position on the start line, but I did not want to follow the quick start and I found myself struggling to get a clear run in the early stages.

‘Once I got into my stride I felt better and was pleased to finish ahead of several familiar runners such as Amy Campbell and Montana Jones.'
